According to the policy adopted by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), the contact information a domain is registered with must be correct and accurate at all times. What’s more, this info is freely visible on WHOIS lookup web sites and while this may not be a problem for firms, it may not be very acceptable for individuals, because everybody can view their names and their personal home and email addresses, all the more so in an age when identity theft is not that uncommon. Because of this, registrar companies have introduced a service that conceals the details of their clients without changing them. The service is called Whois Privacy Protection. If it’s enabled, people will see the details of the registrar company, not those of the domain owner, if they make a WHOIS search. The Whois Privacy Protection service is supported by all generic Top-Level Domain extensions, but it is still not possible to hide your information with some country-code ones.

Whois Privacy Protection in Website Hosting

If you get a website hosting plan from our company, you’ll be able to enable Whois Privacy Protection for any of your domains in case their extensions support this service. You can register or transfer a domain name and add Whois Privacy Protection during the signup procedure or you can activate the service for any of your domains at any time afterwards through the Hepsia Control Panel. The process is astonishingly easy – after you sign in, you’ll need to visit the Registered Domains section where you will notice a list of all the domain names that you’ve registered through our company. For each one of them you’ll notice an “Whois Privacy Protection” icon, which will tell you if the service is active or not. By clicking it, you can either Whois Privacy Protect the domain name, or you can turn off the service if it is currently active.

Whois Privacy Protection in Semi-dedicated Servers

If you wish to hide the contact details associated with your domain and you have a semi-dedicated server account with our company, you will be able to enable our Whois Privacy Protection service either upon signup or at any moment afterwards via our Hepsia hosting Control Panel. This service is optional and can be added with a couple of clicks of the mouse from the Control Panel’s Registered Domains section where all the domains that you’ve registered through our company will be listed in alphabetical order. You can activate Whois Privacy Protection for any of the top-level domain name extensions that support this service by simply clicking on the “Whois Privacy Protection” logo on the right-hand side of each domain. In the same way, you can also renew the Whois Privacy Protection service or turn it off – in case you’d like to transfer a domain name to a different registrar and you need the actual email account associated with the domain to be visible.
